posterior transverse temporal gyrus

The term posterior transverse temporal gyrus refers to the more caudal of two or three short oblique convolutions in the inferior wall of the lateral fissure in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ). Identified by dissection, they are located on the upper surface of the superior temporal gyrus, rostral to the planum temporale.. The more rostral convolution is the anterior transverse temporal gyrus. Transverse temporal gyri are not seen in the macaque or in the smooth cerebral cortex of the rat or mouse ( NeuroNames ).
