frontal pole
Acronym: frp
The term frontal pole refers to the rostral tip of the cerebral cortex (CTX). It is a surface feature found in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ), macaque ( Martin-2000 ), rat ( Swanson-2004 ), and mouse ( Hof-2000 ). In the rat and mouse it refers to the tip of the portion of CTX that terminates dorsal to the main olfactory bulb (OLBm), which, in rodents, extends rostrally a few millimeters beyond the CTX. Some authors use the term as a synonym of 'frontopolar cortex (PFCfp), the functionally defined volumetric structure that underlies the frp. Updated 10 Sep 2024.
