coccygeal segment

The term coccygeal segment (SPCcg) refers to the 30th segment at the ventral end of the spinal cord (SPC). Located ventral to the sacral segments (SPCsc) it gives rise to the corresponding pair of coccygeal nerves. ( Carpenter-1983 ). Defined by histology they are found in all vertebrates ( Swanson-2015 ). In some humans it gives rise to two pairs of coccygeal nerves ( Schiebler-1999 ). Defined by dissection, it is found in all vertebrates ( Swanson-2015 ). Final 24 Dec 2024.
